OPPORTUNITY
The Part-time Literacy Teacher Instructional Coach will have an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on adolescent literacy instruction by partnering directly with educators to strengthen teaching practices, build instructional confidence, and improve student outcomes. This role is ideal for an experienced educator or instructional leader who is passionate about developing teachers, advancing equitable literacy instruction, and exploring innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
Working in partnership with educators serving students in grades 6–12 in Camden, NJ, the Coach will support the implementation of high-quality, student-centered literacy instruction that strengthens reading comprehension, critical thinking, and students' ability to engage with complex, grade-level texts. Through collaborative coaching, data-informed instructional practices, and the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching and learning, the Coach will help teachers effectively implement high-quality instructional materials, adapt to evolving curriculum needs, and develop practical strategies that strengthen student learning.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in adolescent literacy instruction, a collaborative coaching mindset, and curiosity about how emerging tools and technologies can enhance classroom instruction. We especially welcome applications from experienced classroom educators, retired teachers, former instructional coaches, and school or district leaders who are interested in continuing to make a meaningful impact through a flexible, part-time opportunity.
The Coach will report to the MD, Partner Experience and Impact, and collaborate with peer coaches to support school and district instructional improvement priorities.
This is a fixed-term W2 position anticipated to require 10–15 hours per week, with some variation based on partner needs, coaching schedules, and school calendars. While renewal is not guaranteed and depends on district partnerships and organizational needs, ANet makes every effort to identify opportunities for coaches to transition to other assignments when existing engagements conclude.
TRAVEL
This role offers a combination of meaningful, in-person engagement with educators and the flexibility of remote work. The Part-time Literacy Teacher Instructional Coach should expect to spend approximately 60–70% of their working hours on-site in Camden City schools, providing direct instructional coaching and support to teachers. The remaining time will be spent working remotely, including documenting coaching sessions, completing follow-up activities, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in internal ANet meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a Grades 6–12 Literacy Instructional Coach, partnering with teachers and school leaders to strengthen literacy instruction, support striving readers, and improve student outcomes.
- Provide individualized, job-embedded instructional coaching through three structured teaching-and-learning cycles, incorporating cycle goal setting, unit internalization, lesson study, lesson rehearsal and modeling, side-by-side coaching, student data and work analysis, and reflection on cycle goal attainment.
- Support teachers in implementing high-quality, grade-level literacy instruction that strengthens reading comprehension, critical thinking, and students' ability to engage with complex texts, with particular attention to the needs of adolescent striving readers.
- Partner with school leaders to establish instructional practice goals, identify school priorities, and develop strategies that strengthen student-centered instruction and achievement.
- Use research-based instructional practices, classroom observations, and student data to tailor coaching support to individual teachers, including strategies that help striving readers build foundational literacy skills while accessing grade-level content.
- Support teachers in effectively implementing high-quality instructional materials, including myPerspectives, Wit & Wisdom, or comparable literacy curricula, while adapting to evolving district curriculum priorities.
- Explore opportunities to thoughtfully integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into instructional planning, differentiation, and teaching practices to strengthen teacher effectiveness and student learning.
- Integrate TeachFX classroom analytics to gather real-time feedback aligned to each coaching cycle's instructional focus.
- Ground observation and feedback in the Danielson Framework for Teaching (Domains 2 and 3), connecting framework components to the network's high-quality instructional materials.
- Collaborate with school leaders and other stakeholders to analyze instructional data, address school priorities, and develop support plans that promote equitable learning opportunities for all students.
- Participate in weekly team huddles, quarterly Communities of Practice, and data meetings, sharing insights that inform ANet's broader coaching and instructional improvement priorities.
- Lead professional development sessions focused on effective literacy instruction, supporting striving readers, data-informed decision-making, and student-centered teaching practices.
- Capture and share effective coaching strategies, instructional tools, and innovative practices that strengthen ANet's ability to support teachers and improve student achievement.
- Maintain timely coaching documentation, progress notes, and deliverables in accordance with ANet and partner expectations.

REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in grades 6–12 literacy instruction, with a strong understanding of adolescent literacy development, reading comprehension, and evidence-based strategies for supporting striving readers.
- Experience supporting the professional growth of educators through instructional coaching, teacher leadership, mentoring, professional development, or school/district instructional leadership.
- Knowledge of effective literacy interventions and instructional approaches that help adolescent striving readers strengthen foundational skills while engaging with grade-level content.
- Ability to analyze student learning data, observe classroom instruction, and provide actionable feedback that strengthens instructional practices and student achievement.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to establish trust and work effectively with teachers and school leaders.
- Commitment to equitable, student-centered instruction and a willingness to learn and apply new instructional approaches and technologies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Five or more years of experience in grades 6–12 literacy instruction, instructional coaching, teacher leadership, or school/district instructional leadership.
- Experience implementing myPerspectives, Wit & Wisdom, or comparable high-quality secondary literacy curricula. Prior experience with these specific programs is not required.
- Experience supporting adolescent striving readers through literacy intervention, differentiated instruction, and evidence-based approaches to strengthening foundational reading skills.
- Familiarity with the Science of Reading and its application to adolescent literacy instruction.
- Experience facilitating professional learning, leading instructional improvement initiatives, or supporting curriculum implementation.
- Familiarity with the Danielson Framework for Teaching or a comparable instructional observation and feedback framework.
- Experience using educational technology, classroom analytics tools such as TeachFX, or artificial intelligence (AI) to support instructional planning and teaching practices. A willingness to explore and learn emerging tools is equally valued.
COMPENSATION
The hourly rate for this position is $59.19. In order to uphold our commitment to transparent, equitable, competitive, and sustainable compensation, ANet does not negotiate pay.
